When I started A Voice for Good as a fledgling singing group of less than a dozen people in the Summer of 2013, I had great visions of what it could and needed to be. Most others would hardly have been able to imagine it being such at the time. Today, through immeasurable time, energy, and resources donated by hundreds of individuals, not to mention countless miracles from Heaven, A Voice for Good has and is continuing to become what I originally envisioned it could be: A Voice for Good to fill the earth with music and testimony of God’s light and love.

We believe there is more to doing something than just the end product or final result. We believe there is more to music than just technicalities. We believe in making music from the heart, with real intent and to the highest quality we can, to bless the lives of both those participating and those who will attend. All of A Voice for Good’s activities are not just “means with an end”, but “ends with a means”. People are that means, and it is people that are the most important.

The whole purpose of all programs, rehearsals, concerts, and all else is to help people grow, be blessed, and be the best selves they can be. We know that there is good bestowed inherently in the heart of every one of God’s children. We seek to be a voice that not only speaks good, not only does good, but that stands up, testifies of, and finds that good in each person whom we come in contact with.

“My freshman year of college, I was excited for new opportunities. I was excited to meet new people and find what I was passionate about. One thing I always knew was that I loved music. Music speaks to me in a way that many things don't. Beautiful, sacred music in particular can reach parts of my heart and soul that nothing else can.

One day after class I was given a flyer about auditions for an orchestra which would play two sacred works of music: Lamb of God by Rob Gardner and One Fold, One Shepherd by CJ Madsen. I listened to the music and felt the unique testimony each bore. I decided to audition and, as they say, the rest is history.

I became part of the A Voice for Good family. It means more to me than I can hope to describe. I have met wonderful people, many of which became my closest friends; I have found peace in trials and challenges, time and time again; and I have grown, in spirit, in my talents, and in love for others. The mission of A Voice for Good has blessed my life, as I hope it blesses many others.”

The invitation that I received to participate in A Voice for Good has blessed my life immeasurably. I have been strengthened during many a difficult day or long night by the opportunity to serve others through this organization. These opportunities to serve have helped me feel of the Spirit more abundantly.

Alexis de Tocqueville is quoted as having said that “America is great because she is good. If America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.” I believe that this statement can be similarly applied to our world as a whole. In order to be great and to do great things, we need to be and to become fundamentally good. In a day when there are so many voices of darkness, conflict, strife, evil, hate, and contempt, we need more voices doing more good, singing more of Christ’s love, and serving more of God’s children EVERY DAY. We need voices for good.

Those I serve with in the organization have become my best and truest friends; they are families and individuals who bless me through their examples of Christlike obedience, love, and service. I’ve been frequently reminded of the oft-quoted saying that “nothing but heaven itself is better than a friend who is really a friend.” I have felt, when conducting a rehearsal with 120 singers, the love and unity that come from working together, singing together, and knowing that we are in the midst of true friends.

In so many ways, I have been blessed by the love of Jesus Christ in my life; by His teachings, by His Restored Gospel, and by His Matchless Atoning Sacrifice. His love has helped me to feel that the only way to spend my life is to “share my Savior’s love, by serving others freely.” I am grateful for the opportunities to share His love that A Voice for Good affords.
